Three Divisions Of Law
Our Lord God fashioned three structures of laws in The Old Testament which were Ceremonial, Civil and Moral laws. Atheists like to attack The Old Testament because they think Christians should still follow the old statutes because the bible is the word of God. People who have not read the bible or who are superficial do not understand that God created some laws for a reason at that time, and in the modern generation most are no longer practiced because they have been fulfilled by Christ in The New Testament. There are moral laws still in effect today from The Old Testament like Homosexuality.
Three structured laws were given to Israel within the context of society at that time in the East, which was surrounded by outside influences and Pagan ideas like the Canaanites who God was unhappy with.
“You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out. And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them. But I have said to you, “You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from the people’s. You shall therefore distinguish between clean animals and unclean, between unclean birds and clean, and you shall not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean. And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the people, that you should be Mine.”
Israel was set apart by the creator so not to fall into sinful ways from the surrounding Pagan nations who had no desire to follow a set of instructions, they wanted to be lawless and do their own thing including worshiping false Gods.
God wanted Israel to be Holy, a hub to point the Lords chosen people to a savior to come in Jesus Christ trying to mold his nation into his divine image.
Punishable Sin in Israel was by a substitute until Christ became the ultimate substitute, Israel’s substitute was by the means of animal sacrifice. Ultimately no man could match the creators standards until the Lord Jesus Christ came to perfect the law in The New Covenant, fulfilling The Old Covenant. Christ fulfilled the demands of the Mosaic law, which called for perfect obedience. Mosaic means laws of or relating to Moses attributed to him contained in the Pentateuch or the first five books of the bible. Remember the wrath of God only means he has an eternal detestation for all unrighteousness. The creator is Holy and fights against evil, it’s not a moral blemish but the Fathers will to take action. We never had the wrath of Jesus he is the embodiment of love, where as God is love but also fights against evil in a moral holy way.
So there were laws that showed the Israelites how to obey God and to please him like written in The Ten Commandments, the sacrificial laws were implemented to atone for sin and worship God, while other statutes were in place to set them apart from Pagans like the clothing rules which we will come to later in this article.
So we had civil laws which expired with the demise of the Jewish civil government, ceremonial laws which expired with Jesus Christ and moral laws which are still law today as they are holy and Gods character.
Homosexuality is in Gods moral laws and is a sin, which is a common argument atheists like to bring up.
So is it wrong to eat pork?
Leviticus 11:7 ceremonial law
“And the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you.”
Ceremonial laws expired with Jesus Christ so in modern times this no longer applies. Eating swine flesh was viewed as an abomination to Israelites Gods chosen people at that time to protect them from infections or bacteria carried by these types of animals. Food regulations are now abolished.
So is it wrong to eat shellfish?
Leviticus 11:9-12 Ceremonial law
“These you may eat of all that are in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers—that you may eat. But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales that shall be an abomination to you.”
Ceremonial law again which is no longer binding to Christians.
Scavengers by nature could place toxins into the human body and shellfish can cause allergic reactions. Shellfish and fish without scales or fins are filter feeders of the sea eating dead matter and waste, God gave his people a way of clean living which would in-turn bring out their devotion to the Father for his caring nature.
The creator is in control and food was a part of the intelligent plan for mankind. Clean animals have a split hoof and chew the cud, or eat plants. Herbivores generally are healthier for mankind to eat having an advanced digestive system where food is purified before any toxins are absorbed into the body.
When we mess with food we create our own diseases so who is more intelligent God or mankind?
Mad-cow disease came about by feeding parts of other cattle.
Injecting chemicals into food to make them last longer is also not what God designed for us to eat.
So is it wrong for us to have slaves? Moral law
Today there are over 30 million people subject to modern slavery. The bible does not support slavery as atheists seem to think it does.
The bible gives instructions how to treat slaves because in The Old Testament times slavery was not centered around race, nationality or skin color. Slavery was used as a social status, to pay off debts and to provide money for families. Some people actually choose to be slaves which is different from being forced. The bible actually condones anything racist as we are all children of God and made in his image.
Today slavery is big business people are sold to slave traders and forced into prostitution or to work on farms, this is regarded as ungodly and is a sin, We are also slaves to money. Enslaving a person is also wrong remember the Greek word slave is also servant or bond-servant which were paid a wage, and had nothing to do with racial slavery. God gave rights and rules to slaves for their protection showing he cared for them. Also Christians led the fight to abolish slavery in the 16th-19th century so in conclusion slaves under Mosaic laws were more like servants or bond-servants. Also however commits sin is a slave to sin.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
So is it wrong for us to wear clothing with mixed fabrics?
“You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your livestock breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you.”
“You shall not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed, lest the yield of the seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled.
You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.
“You shall not wear a garment of different sorts, such as wool and linen mixed together.”
These laws were not moral laws. High priests wore an Ephod made of linen and dyed thread this is also key to understanding this law. A high priest was set apart by God able to wear clothing that was different from society, dyed thread would have been made of wool.
The High priest was important and a role model of Gods character showing holiness and a symbol of Gods pureness on earth. The religion of Israel was in open conflict with the fertility cult religion. God warned Israelites against putting their trust in the land or false idols. The seed laws were an aspect of this prohibition. These laws restricted genetic experimentation in Israel. There would be no specialized animal breeding; there would be no mixing of seeds in any field.
So today Christians can wear clothing made of two different types of threads and wool. Mosaic laws on threads was for the Israelites and not for The New Testament, only aspects of The Old Testament that are reaffirmed in The New Covenant are binding to modern-day Christians which is moral and ethical issues derived from The Ten Commandments.
So should we have beards and not shave the sides?
“You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard.”
This law was for the general population and the Levitical priests for the control of infections diseases and ritual purification. If Israelites wore a beard in compliance with the law it reminded them of their creator and to be obedient. Priests had to maintain ceremonial purity and to reflect Gods divine character appropriate to their office. Israel was set apart to be Gods own representatives on planet earth.
The role of Christians today is to be a nation of Priests, Ambassadors and to spread the gospel, not copying other religious practices of anything around. It was also common for pagan priests to shave their heads as part of their satanic worship of false Gods.
The law is stated twice for Israel and the priests only and this law is not required in modern times outside Israel although it is still practiced by some there. In The New covenant there is a bible verse:
I Corinthians 11:6
“For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.”
God intends humans to have hair that’s why it grows back, but this New Testament verse shows that vanity should be considered.
So should we have tattoos?
“You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.”
God gave this law to his chosen people of Israel. Pagan nations had generally marked their flesh with names and symbols of false Gods. This was again to set them apart as a holy nation an example to others. This was part of mosaic laws and no longer applies but principles can be learned especially for the modern Christian. The human body should be kept holy and a living sacrifice. Tattoos should never be taken for following groups, gangs etc or to proclaim ownership of someone like a girl as our bodies belong to God. Tattoos should never be taken to try to become a new identity when we have established our identity the mirror of Christ. Tattoos can have impacts with jobs, relationships and can be costly to remove. Tattoos also have pagan roots with shaving the head. Remember Israelites were set apart to have beards and not to shave their heads. Satanic marks opens the door to the devil, God would rather we do not deface our bodies made in his image and be happy with what he fashioned us with without addition. God wants Christians to live there lives than display Christian images on our flesh. Humans can also get diseases from improper sanitation of needles used for tattoos and around 50 percent of people eventually regret having their bodies tattooed. The New Testament has principles we can follow which can apply to tattoos mentioned in Peter:
1 Peter 3:3-4
“Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”
So does homosexuality no longer apply?
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”
“If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death.”
The Old Testament clearly said it is wrong and is an abomination. It is mentioned 113 times the words associated with abomination in the bible. Leviticus 20 also mentions all homosexuals should be put to death. So can we execute homosexuals?
Of cause not because the Mosaic laws have been fulfilled and we are no longer under a theocratic government system. Arguments state that homosexuality no longer applies because it is in The Old covenant. This argument is wrong because it’s a moral law and is also written in The New Testament:
“Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”
Mosaic law and The New Testament laws reflect the order of God and all he stands for. Some laws were for Israel only and moral laws are for everyone. I am not going to write too much on homosexuality please read my two articles homosexuality take one and two for further wisdom on this topic.
We are all made to be holy and anyone who says homosexuality no longer applies like atheists like to point out display total ignorance and are superficial. The word homosexual was not coined until the late 19th century it did not exist before then it wasn’t until 1869 that Dr Karoly Benkert created the term by combining homo the Greek word with sexual the Latin word. Including the word homosexual in scripture was a choice of the translators, it was first mentioned in 1946 and did not appear in a The King James Bible in 1611 because the words had not been invented then. Many words have been added to the English language since 1611 to give us a better understanding like the bible which was translated over thousands of years. Truth is never determined by the number of times something is said in scripture, God tells us once that homosexuality is wrong and a sin that is the law in The Old and New Testament. The Queen James publishers and atheists that deny homosexuality is a sin are stopping Gods blessings for forgiveness and a life with Christ.
The bible refers to sexual acts between people of the same gender.
Homosexuality was a sin in mosaic law and Jesus reaffirmed it as a moral sin in The New Testament.
So should Christians be circumcised?
Circumcision removes the foreskin, the sensitive tissue that normally covers and protects the head of the penis. In Genesis, God told Abraham to circumcise himself, his household and his bond servants as an everlasting covenant in their flesh. Those who were not circumcised were to be cut off from their people, Note the connection between circumcision and slavery. Circumcision applied to the slaves of Jewish people. Apart from that, circumcision never applied to people outside the Jewish faith. The first covenant was not with other nations. Circumcision never applied to Christians. So as Christians do we need to be circumcised?
The answer is no you do not have to be circumcised to get into heaven. This issue was resolved long ago by the apostle Paul and the early Church. Circumcision has absolutely nothing to do with salvation. It is one of many Old Testament requirements that ended the moment that Jesus Christ died for our sins. Circumcision had to do with The Old Testament relationship between God and the Jewish people, it has never been a requirement for Christians.
“This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.”
Lack of law in our life we will always lead to anarchy. Laws give us rights to husbands over their wife’s within a loving committed relationship of trust and loyalty. All relations have a fundamental base of trust including the business side. Justice from God is warranted and is his entitlement to act on if people agree to his laws then break the commitment. Each generation has moved further away then changed and broken laws which affect the very character of the Lord forcing him to act. Jesus was mocked for his faith, attacked, tortured and then crucified. God has patience and has forgiven many times through history. He will wait a man’s lifetime to come back to his will. When the creator punishes he does this like a parent, this means carefully and with love. Before he gives punishment he will warn in many ways and is slow to anger:
“But You, O. Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,
Long suffering and abundant in mercy and truth.”
The Lord only punishes those whom he loves. This compares with a father who disciplines his children not to harm but a corrective discipline, constructive like a father. He destroyed only when things reach a certain level of moral degradation or disobedience like Sodom and Gomorrah. In addition before destroying God checked the status of the people and made sure he had witnesses like any human would do out of respect including the laws of people. God does not want to be accused and required at least two witness. If he did anything unrighteous Satan would have been the first to accuse him. When God judges mankind it will be in fine detail, attention to detail means respect and love for each human which is important.
This means God is careful know one can accuse him with solid arguments and nobody can accuse him like with Jesus Christ. Method of Entry into the kingdom of heaven proves a pre-selection made by man ultimately by self-selection. Everyone has a chance to choose the direction they want to go. Everyone has the right to choose God or reject him and he endowed man with free will. In addition the creator gave his own Spirit to indwell into mankind for his benefit Angels did not have this advantage which is very important because God wanted man to choose from love and not from fear. Yet the creator linked fear of God with wisdom and choice giving a simple path to come back to God by repentance not asking complicated tasks. What a privilege given only to man, Angels do not have this benefit proving his desire to have a good relationship with his creation made in his divine image.
Christian freedom is not a license to do whatever you want. Christians must educate themself in faith, pray and remain faithful.
Those who belong to Christ will be saved from punishment and receive eternal-life. False teachers deny Christ’s lordship.
The Mosaic Law was to diagnose sin and reveal transgression the Mosaic covenant was good but not without fault it was subjected to imperfection by God Himself so that we might run only to the perfection provided in Christ.
In our juridical life we have a code of laws which is decided by judges which is similar with God’s mandate and his judgement. God awakens us through the law and leads us to acknowledge our desperate condition. But God gave us a lawyer who represents mankind in front of his righteous judgement, but not only to represent but to pay the bail money in our name.
That currency was his own blood through his son Jesus who saves us from slavery in this life and the next to come giving us a wonderful second chance. Remember every law which is broken is subject to condemnation including death. What does this means from the perspective of Satan?
Everyone who breaks Gods laws approves the justice system of the Devil, it might be more permissive, we have free will let’s open this up to do anything without restraint. Satan can wait many years for an opportunity until the last days of our lives to bring the hammer down loosing all our privileges including rights to live. In that moment we lose our rights in different areas through the body, immorality, the soul, intellect, affection and will. Satan receives the rights and is justified and entitled to do what he wants with us manifesting his oppressive power as a master. If you want to regain your virtue you have to pay the price of sacrifice. This is the role of Jesus our Lord and savior. He will pay that price because he is power and is recognized as the highest authority in the spiritual world where as the devil does not give second chances he locks the prison door shut forever.
4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
Satan can keep us in prison for years until our death. Everything that Satan gives mankind has a sense of gain, freedom and rights, to use our inheritance in Christ for his own benefit and to destroy the biggest plan God’s creation man-made in His image. The creator defends only his chosen people and the people who abide in him, his laws and respect his values. The bible said:
“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”
“For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.”
Human history has proved that mankind has no chance in the front of Satan. Our wisdom and human laws cannot help us in a world governed by the devil the prince of darkness who rules with a rod of fire. Satan always attacks mankind to get to God because he knows the creator is perfect. We learn lessons in suffering that Gods laws are in place for a reason. Satan has never said directly to God you are wrong because all of Gods creation has always said you are righteous and Holy.
Fundamentals of Gods Laws.
The Godhead’s role is to expand the family by bringing back its fallen sons and daughters to spiritual glory. The angelic realm has ministering Angels who respond to Gods calling. Humans were created in the image of God to be in his eternal family. We do not posses eternal life which is a gift from God until we accept his terms and laws in scripture.
Adam and Eve had the choice of eternal life but like modern man disobeyed laws thinking they knew best. Sin entered the world and mankind is subject to a physical death once. The creator wants us to be righteous and develop our character to overcome sin blooming in wisdom and the love of Christ. The bible is the Lords complete will and plan for his chosen people made in his image of the requirements through faith for a complete and sustaining life for mankind. Scripture is the love and wisdom of God and is the truth. Sin eroded the law of God which attacked the spirit realm of perfection and holiness. Gods laws are perfected on love and is the greatest commandment and founding principle of every law. Breaking any of Gods laws has the potential of spiritual separation. The Fathers laws through The Holy Spirit produces happiness and brings peace of mind.
The creator loved us so much he manifested himself into Jesus Christ to pay the ultimate blood penalty for mankind’s sins. God in the flesh and our creator proved his love for us and died on the cross making it possible for each person to seek forgiveness of sins.
Christ proved he was God by raising himself from the dead after three days which was witnessed and ascended into heaven where he sits glorified at the right hand of God the Father as High Priest. Christians are priests and ambassadors serving the High Priest. For mankind to repent we become saved and start a new relationship with the Father. Jesus is our savior and we should obey the commandments. Once made new and baptized in Christ we receive The Holy Spirit which Indwells becoming part of the body of Christ the walking church of God.
The Sabbath is the seventh day of the week to rest and worship God. The Passover is a memorial of Jesus Christ’s death. The festival of God is celebrated that reveals his plan of salvation as written above. Tithing honors God with his material goods that he provided for us and used to help others in need.
Jesus Christ will return to Earth to reestablish the kingdom of God and reign for 1000 years.
The law of God was given for our benefit to show us how to become more like God. Biblical laws are a holy system of statutes, commandments, and judgements that are meant to be observed by all nations and all mankind as the Lord created everything. The Ten Commandments were the foundation for how humans should interact with the divine and each other.
“For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver,
The Lord is our King;
He will save us.”
“Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.”
