16 Nevertheless, the Lord raised up Judges who delivered them out of the land of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges, but they played the harlot with other god, and bowed down to them, they turned quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the commandments of the lord, they did not do so. 18 And when the lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. For the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them. 19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other Gods, to serve them and bow down to them. They did not cease from their own doings nor from their stubborn way.

Summary

Book of judges is the account of Yahweh (God) was taken for granted by his children, over the years. They were disobedient, worshiped idols, which led to many crushing defeats. God always brought back the people if they repent and call his Holy name.

After the death of Joshua and contemporaries they returned to worshiping false Gods Baal and Ashtoreth. God allowed them to suffer for their sin, but would cry out to the Lord for help. God sent those Judges to lead them back to a clean, righteous way to live. But over time they slipped back into sin, worshiping false Gods and disobeying Gods laws.

God kept his covenant with Abraham, and would save his people throughout the 480 year span of The Book of Judges.

Probably most well-known Judge was the 12th judge Samson, who came to lead the Israelites after 40 year of being a prisoner under harsh rule of the Philistines. Samson gloried over the Philistines with Gods chosen people, he lost his own life after 20 years as a Judge.

Samson Mother was told she would give birth to a son to lead Israel and the announcement to Mary of the Devine birth of the Messiah Jesus. God sent his Angel to both these woman, telling them they would conceive sons.

God’s Love was infinite in sending Jesus to die on the cross, for his chosen people. They slipped back into evil ways, But Jesus was the Rock, our salvation to the Divine plan and went to the cross to die for us, taking our sins away.

Disobedience brings God’s Judgement. God’s chosen people are a warning what not to do, and continually rebel, push God away, like a slap in the face.

Continuing to sin they invited the Creators wrath, not because he wants us to suffer, because he acts with discipline, punishing his children.
