Faith And The Soul Part Two

Is the human soul mortal or immortal?

There are articles and teachers that say after death the human soul dies. This article proves that the human soul does not die and is immortal.

It would be bizarre for Jesus not to welcome as a sign of respect the soul of Stephen his first martyr after his death. But being full of the Holy Ghost he looked up steadfast into heaven, saw the glory of the Father and Jesus standing at the right hand of God and said:

Acts 55-60
“Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice “Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Please note:
“Receive my spirit and he fell asleep”

The spirit is the element in humanity which gives us the ability to have an intimate relationship with God. Whenever the word spirit is used, it refers to the immaterial part of humanity that connects with God, who himself is a spirit.

It would be strange for Jesus to clothe dead souls:

Revelation 6:10-11
“When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.”

This happened long before judgment day, Jesus told them to wait and their souls were under the altar this is clearly written in scripture.
Nothing can enter heaven unclean. The Old Testament states that a dead body is considered unclean and warns mankind not to touch it. If God asks this from man, our souls are no different they wait to be judged to be worthy of entering heaven.

It would be incomprehensible that God would permit dead spirits to meet with His Son. The meeting between Jesus, Elijah and Moses:

Luke 9:28-36
“As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with Him. Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.”

This scripture shows mankind the possibility to pass from the material world into the spiritual world without death. The Bible records the moment when Elijah was taken into heaven:

2 Kings 2:11
“Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”

Another example is in Genesis:

Genesis 5:24
“And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

1 Peter 3:18-20
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.”

Again eight souls saved. The idea of prison opens another discussion that relates to judgment day.
It would be ridiculous for Jesus to tell a lie to the thief:

Luke 23:43
“Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

This means that Jesus would have finished his existence in the material world with a lie. In Addition, the Hebrew people knew there was judgment for every soul after death.

So let’s go deeper what is the soul?

The human being is made up of a trinity body, soul, spirit.
In terms of the body, the part that we all see houses all our complex bodily system.
Regarding the soul and spirit, there is confusion which is justified because of the complexity of what God designed for its purpose.

The human soul includes intellect thinking, ability, accumulation of information, analysis, creativity, feelings, emotions and will. All these are part of personality and character of a man and define him as a unique specimen.
Without going into too many details in this article, we’ll try an illustration.
The human soul can be compared to a super-powerful computer that can have emotional and volitional capacities while the breath of life can be compared to an electric current. The human spirit is like a transmission communication system wired towards the body and soul. Through this fully functional system the Spirit of God interacts with the human soul, which affects the whole human body.
After Adam’s fall, this perfect system was interrupted, fused and died. The connection between the human spirit and the Spirit of God was lost but not forgotten.
Those born again this link is recovered much like a computer with a virus the two spirits begin a reassessment of all the corrupt data and begin reprogramming everything with God’s Word.
At death the breath of life disappears, but the soul remains with all the information accumulated throughout life returning to the Father because he is accountable for how he followed the will of God throughout life as a member of the body of Christ, or abusing his free-will and going alone away from God’s plan encoded within him.
The soul has a period of time to prove its righteousness and the slope in which he delights.
After death until judgment day the soul is on standby in heaven in a place of rest or asleep, while others suffer in Sheol.
The parable of the rich man and Lazarus gives us a few clues.

Luke 16:23-25
“And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your life lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.”

It should be noted some defining aspects of the Word in the context of the requirements of the knowledge of good and evil, the information plays a fundamental primary role. He is the smallest unit which operates with human thinking as a kernel of the fruit of knowledge. The Word is the first thing addressing the soul and touches on all three components, intellect, emotion and will.
Man does not always realise his power but God knows how powerful a Word can be creating an entire material world only by his Word.
But mankind also can create his own world both personally and collectively. In the simplest form with a single word you can give a refreshing blast to a saddened soul, or you can hurt even kill and break up relationships. The bible highlights in countless verses, that through your words you can bless or curse. All these are in direct relationship with the human being able to choose with free will. Because mankind was given the gift of free will he can choose to have and to speak The Word of God, or rejects it completely. Besides free will God gave something else to man worth remembering, he gave us time called a period of grace.
Note that this favour is given to man only, In this period of time his Word is subject to all judgment, he is tried, namely, it is subject to interpretation by critics, it was and is still condemned and mocked today.
Human history records, a true phylum of attitudes towards God. In the period of grace, they are tolerated but seen by the creator as rebellion against his Word. God said:

Mathew 12:31-32
“Wherefore I say unto you, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men.”

But He also said something interesting:

Matthew 12:31-32
“Whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”

Man is rebellious by nature and goes their own way, thinking changes over time and ideas spread like a bad seed. The Word of God is formulated to not be the absolute truth and not in the best interest of mankind. But through repentance, some humans admit that God said the truth and that he made a mistake but still want something other than the will of God. Sincere people want to return wholeheartedly again to the absolute truth of God, therefore, repentance is seen as the only solution. God gives the possibility of repentance to man because he remembers that we are far more than dust but made in his image.

Angels do not benefit from the great grace of repentance, Once they are wrong they cannot return to the Lord. God did not want mankind to know evil but left him with the possibility to choose what he wants. Therefore, he did not hide the Tree of knowledge of good and evil, but left it among the other trees in sight, but warned severely do not stretch forth your hand towards it. The existence of at least two options to choose between depends on obedience and the act of love. You cannot force someone to love you or choose you, but you can give them the option to develop and help him to get to know you, the decision of choice belongs to him.
This was the work of God with mankind but he never wanted man to know evil but created all the conditions of choice.
God allowed humans to go through and experience knowledge of good and evil, to see with his own eyes the difference.

Man has abused in every way the Lords Word, God has shown patience But when it comes to the Spirit, The Bible says short and clear:

Ephesians 4:30
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

The Bible says something more and is a principle for God:

Matthew 12:36-37
“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words, thou shalt be condemned.”

From Gods instruction book we learn that our grace period will end very soon, all things will return to normality desired by God, and His Word will come again in all its glory and Rights. The material world and the spiritual realm will recognise Him as the supreme authority.
The Word operates both in the material world and the spiritual world, through his Power can be activated what the Bible calls:
The powers of the coming age

This also can be accomplished by people today in the material world because the spirits that belong to the spiritual realm hear the word of God, are obedient to react if it is spoken with faith and the power of Christ.
The Bible is full of such situations:

Mark 5:6-12
“But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, and cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the highest God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, my name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.”

The word is not only the fundamental condition of the soul but is part of its composition like food enters the body. Jesus made this statement

Matthew 4:4
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Bread is a vital food source for humans. From this perspective, one can understand why God sent his Word in the human world so we hunger for it. He did not send a psychic genius in order to satisfy the need for man’s knowledge and curiosity, he did not send a psychic doctor but the Word to feed us his fruit and wisdom. The Word is the only way of reconciliation with God. There are only two attitudes towards it total ignorance, or one of acceptance, a third attitude does not exist. You cannot elude it, and you cannot elude God Soon we will all deal with the Almighty.
In this way, the Creator of mankind not only exposes the beautiful word to humans but every man to his Word. God’s actions can be understood to all throughout human history. His intention was and still is the same today to extend his love to the ends of the earth so no man can say he did not know.
In this way, human nature from the soul, with all its components starts to work properly again with the spirit and body reprogrammed like before the fall.

What else does the Word offer mankind?

Once the Word is accepted he does not come alone, he comes with The Holy Spirit which gives life, power and meaning to the word, taking root, it comes to life in the same way as blood gets the breath of life.

Leviticus 17: 11
“By the breath of life, man became a living soul, that a living being. “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

Through The Holy Spirit, the spirit of man receives the life of the Spirit of God. The human spirit encompasses the entire human soul, with all of its components and is kept by the power of The Holy Spirit:

Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

The Spirit begins a beautiful process of renewal being born again.

John 1:12-13
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

John 14:26
“He is the Helper and the Comforter who will take from the word and he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

Man mirrors God and takes on his character fulfilling Why mankind was created.
The Holy Spirit returns to the starting point like with Adam and Eve the first humans who choose wrong. Each Adam and Eve who has an attitude of repentance towards God’s Word has a second chance to choose again the whole Word of God:

Proverbs 1:7
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Proverbs 19:23
“The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.”

It should be emphasised the idea that God binds eternal life to knowledge about Him.

John 17:3
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

In conclusion:
From a spiritual point of view If there is no Spirit, there is nothing.

So What is the human spirit?

The human spirit is the intimate part of the human trinity. It is not easy to define as it’s not easy to explain the divine trinity.
The three components of a trinity merge together working as one or in the same direction, but still have different attributes and functions. The same applies with the human trinity, unity personified.
We know about the Word but not too much about The Holy Spirit. We can understand him after his traces Just like you cannot see the wind but you can see human lives moving as a consequence of his glorious presence.
The spirit is usually felt, we can feel different but do not know why, but a simple reworking of the mind is slowly taking place. All these feelings are a direct link with peace of soul and a deep inner peace. All the components of your soul have aligned and converge in the same direction as Christ.

In The Bible we can find many verses where God said:
“My Spirit will no longer struggle with man” or
“My Spirit rested over him.”

Body, Soul and Spirit aligns to God’s will and God’s Holy Spirit no longer struggles with the rebellious nature of man. Many identify the spirit with the conscience, however, man’s spirit and The Holy Spirit reserve the right not to expose too much to our limited human knowledge. I must emphasise that the spirit is in direct connection with life. However, the spirit of man is different from the God’s breath of life and also from The Holy Spirit.
The bible said:

James 2:26
“For the body without the spirit is dead.”

It must be emphasised the body is dead without the spirit, not the soul, God’s Spirit gives life.
God’s spirit resurrected Jesus and the same spirit will resurrect our souls because God has chosen man’s body to become the temple of his Spirit:

1 Corinthians 6:19
“Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God”

Genesis helps us a little to understand the difference between the spirit and soul and respectively the breath of life God said:

Genesis 2:17
“For the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.”

It was expected Adam and Eve would die as written in the bible, many atheists like to point out they carried on living, however, something died and God never lies or makes mistakes. The body did not die but they died spiritually losing all gifts from God, the divine link and trust were cut. If we can’t follow the law, then the creator of everything turns his back but will never forget.

Romans 11:29
“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

Mankind’s spirit is a beautiful element from the human trinity which has importance to God is disrupted, the soul and spirit are spiritual entities working together but are also defined separately. Adam and Eve suffered a spiritual death as The Holy Spirit left them that provides life to man’s spirit, God wants a relationship with everyone but if you disobey his statutes our well-watered garden becomes spiritually barren.
This is emphasised by the meaning of Jesus words:

John 7:37-39
“If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.”

The presence of the Fathers Spirit into man’s spirit makes the difference because it is fashioned to unify together.
The Holy Spirit is the living spirit his presence in a material world is visibly more through his actions and effects. In the Old Testament God shows us more the ability and power of The Holy Spirit to print the soul, to coordinate, align, putting mankind in accord with the Word and respectively with the Will of God.
The spirit takes control over our thinking, speaking, action and behaviour, and as a consequence, the body comes under the control of him. The New Testament is no different power and grace is there to be seen like the breath of the wind. But through his withdrawal God removed his word and also his Holy Spirit from modern man and left us with an instruction book the Bible to follow and teach others to come to faith and be born again.

God’s word incarnate among mankind said:

John 16:13
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

After the fall, the connection between man and The Spirit of God was interrupted.
God made a step back and let his creation discover another world with a strange knowledge of evil.
During a few thousand years which is not long in God’s judgment mankind will find one truth which was simply said by Jesus, God’s word incarnate:

John 6:63
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they The man will discover how important is God, with everything what He is and with everything that God gave him including at the level of knowledge of good.”

Generation after generation will discover evil and how it erodes the body Gods temple because man woke up like in a vortex of an hourglass which challenges him from all angles daily. Mankind hangs by a multitude of need, including the need for a guide and the protection of one. All these conditions of existence put pressures from inside and outside, Satan’s influence and the daily spiritual war, without information here we can have no armour to help us. Man is between two opposing forces one is God, and the other is the adversary the Devil who is in direct competition with the creator of human souls, but where the Lord wants salvation Satan wants trophies.
Mankind is also caught between pressures of material things and the need for money and sex take over the true understanding of creation. The middle way, the way of independence and freedom beneficial for all, has remained just a utopian goal during the whole of human history. What should have been harmony of two voices man and God full of life for the human soul became a deafening noise of many voices which kill the soul and destroy all rationality.
All mankind sings in a big world, with an inner emptiness this is spiritual death. It can be also understood as spiritual blindness an existence without God.
Genesis said:

Genesis 3:7
“The eyes of both of them were opened.”

This refers to spiritual blindness and the bible supports this idea. Mankind came into spiritual darkness. From this perspective, we can understand better why Jesus defines himself as The Light of world and God’s people The sons of Light or Sons of day.

What happens to the soul after the body dies?

The body is made from material but the soul is not. The soul is taken by God, some will sleep waiting to be judged but will not lose consciousness, memory, senses and the ability to think.
The soul will slumber in a kind of standby mode without losing any information which will then be processed by the creator when he judges us.
The idea that souls die to some teachers and articles because it’s connected to the body and dies with it is false and unfounded biblically many bible verses can be read and misinterpreted without The Holy Spirits guidance.
The Bible gives us enough truth to believe that the human soul does not die but will integrate Perfectly in the spiritual world right at home. Only God can destroy a soul.

Man having shed his outer body will carry on his existence in a new form, specifically made for the world to come.
The entrance to the spiritual world has two possibilities:
To come in with joy or with dread and fear. After entry, every soul waits in different places for the day of judgment each according to deeds done. Righteous souls will find rest into the house of God.
And souls which have rejected the creator and his plan of salvation through Jesus, go to a place of
suffering.
The bible said that every soul will pass judgement. But at the same time we have to remember that Jesus said:

John 3:18
“He that believes in him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

This verse is for those who believed in Jesus, starting with the thief on the cross who died for their faith in Christ. Those who die in the name of the Lord, martyrs, Christians etc will be judged differently with an aim to reward good works done by the fruits of The Holy Spirit. Souls that have passed from death to life with the Spirit of the risen Jesus, The Holy Spirit will raise them up too:

Romans 8:11
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelt in you.”

The Bible tells us including where the souls wait and what they do after the mortal body returns to dust:

1 Thessalonians 4:13
“Some rest from their toil from earth. ‘But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”

The following verses from Revelation give us more clues about where faithful souls are and what happens, We’ll stop especially at a category of souls consisted by martyrs.

Revelation 6:9-11
“I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, how long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”

Revelation 7:9-17
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. And he said to me, these are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

So, where are they?
They are under the altar or before the throne of God.
What are they doing? And where?
They serve God day and night in his temple.

Revelation 5:9
“And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals; For You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, And have made us.”

There is also another special category:

Revelations 14:4-5
“Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him, one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads “These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being first fruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God.”

What are they doing?

Revelation 14:3
“And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.’

Revelation 6:11
“And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season.”

Why should souls rest?

The resting of souls is the essence of the understanding of our human condition in the material world held accountable to God.

Hebrews 4:9-11
“There remaineth, therefore, a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”

Jesus also called in the same terms including his greeting Peace to you.

Matthew 11:28
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

After death finally, we shed all the toil from the earth. Rest and joy are to some God’s reward:

Luke 15:7
“His lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant enter thou into the joy of thy lord’. And to other He will say:’ ‘His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: enter thou into the joy of thy lord’. We can remember here the joy of heaven too: ‘I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.”

This confidence that the Bible called resurrection is ultimately the coming into the full rights of those considered by God as being righteous respecting those who kept his mandate. They accepted his will of salvation through Christ’s sacrifice and were adopted as God’s children who proved their love for him until their last breath of their lives:

Romans 8:14-17
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

Revelation 14:13
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”

The process of resurrection of the soul began the same time with being born again, there is no process of being born again after death, on this earth now is the process of salvation.

Jesus emphasises the importance of born again in the dialogue with Nicodemus:

John 3:5
Jesus answered “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, You must be born again.”

If mankind did not receive The Holy Spirit on earth, he neither will after death. Everyone has a choice and free will to save his soul:

Luke 16:27:31
“Then he said, I pray thee, therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him if they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

Without repentance, there isn’t forgiveness.

But unfortunately, a big part of mankind’s souls will go to Sheol.
This is a place where the souls will be separated without God. The Bible introduces a place without rest, a place of suffering, where the soul is overdone. It is interesting that evil spirits have no rest on earth:

Matthew 12:43-45
“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

Where is the Sheol?

Hades is not within heaven or near it Like many claims.
Sheol does not have any connection to the resting place of the righteous. Sheol has no relation with heaven because Heaven does not entertain anything dirty or associated with death.

In the parable of the rich man said:

Luke 16: 26
“And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.”

The Bible speak about a bottomless Pit:

Revelation 11:7
“When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.”

Revelation 20:1-3
“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things, he must be released for a little while.”

Revelation 20:13-14
“The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”

What happens when we die?

Death is the threshold between the two worlds the material one and the spiritual one. Death marks the moment when the soul separates from the body, the breath of life stops and the spirit returns to God who gave it:

Ecclesiastes 12: 7
“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”

Genesis 2:7
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.’ And: ‘In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

Every man has a chapter in God’s book. The pen is ready to write your name in the book of life.

The Bible said that death came through sin:

Romans 5: 12
“Wherefore, as by one man the sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that, all have sinned.”

For the wages of sin is death but it continued and said an important thing:

Romans 6:23
“But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

In everyday speech, we say living soul or lifeless soul, we say living spirit, or spiritually dead, we talk about spirits of the dead or ghosts.

The answers are there for mankind about death in relation to what we see and talk about in this world.
We know the body disappears as matter, back to dust from the ground.
We can see the breath of life disappears for good after death.
But we cannot speak too much about we cannot see. Eventually, we just believe what we want and have our own opinions.

Firstly the Bible does not deny the existence of spirits or the existence of the spiritual world, it speaks openly about spirits of those who died and about the existence of others spirits estranged from the one who designed them.
God is also a Spirit and of the living:

Numbers 16:32
“The God of the spirits of all flesh.”

Matthew 22:31-32
“Have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

God never would bind his name with the name of something that is gone forever. Jesus emphasised this and explained that God identified himself as being God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. If Their souls would have died then The creator would not have linked his name with dead souls, as he is God of the living. In The New Testament it said:

John 4:24
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The Holy Spirit is actively involved in the most important works for God in worship and communication between God and man.

Romans 8:26-27
“Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

The Bible helps us to understand how important the presence of The Holy Spirit is to God and man. He puts his Spirit as a royal seal on the redeemed man’s soul. Noteworthy, he does it just to redeemed souls through the sacrifice of Christ. Son who in-composes the trinity together with his Spirit.

2 Corinthians 1:22
“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”

Ephesians 1:13-14
Who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

Romans 8:16
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”

He asks those which are born again through his Spirit to walk just in the Spirit:

Galatians 5:16-17
“I say then Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.”

In this way, it does not obstruct the most important work made by the divine trinity into the human trinity, the work of sanctification.

1 Peter 1:2-9
“Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.”

Romans 8:23
“Not only that but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”

And the whole process of creation of man in God’s image begins on earth building character and will be fulfilled in heaven.”

Galatians 5:22-25
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Romans 8:9-11
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

All the work of The Holy Spirit touch the final purpose and desires by God:

Genesis 1:26
“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.”

The Bible speaks clearly not only about the existence of a spiritual world, with it spirits which populate it but also speaks about interaction between the two worlds, the material and spiritual plains.
If God speaks about the existence of spirits and interaction between the two worlds, then this is the truth. God does not lie. If it would not have been so, God would have been first to say spirits do not exist and it is all human imagination.

In first part of The New Testament, we can find multiple manifestations of the presence of the spiritual world into the material one. All have links with the fact mankind is caught up in a war between two belligerent forces:

God and one of the spirits which rebelled drew after him a third of the spirits. This war was initiated in the spiritual realm but it was extended encompassing man and his material world:

Ephesians 6:12-13
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

The main purpose is the claim of power and of authority between two force, one good the other evil. But this war touches our lives ultimately and can impact our souls. All this proves that there is a world of spirits just as real as the material world.

Human understanding is always the same because it’s not a visible reality we dismiss it as myth and superstition. Only relying on our five human senses sight, hearing, touching, smell and taste, however, there is the wind yet we can’t see it but we know it’s there, we have invisible radio waves all around us like wi-fi but we can’t see it.
A spiritual world divided by lack of obedience and unable to follow laws. Some spirits serve men like the Holy Spirit and others which would like to use him for their benefits.
The Bible says several things about these spirits called bad spirits who lost their position and function from heavenly places and they now look for a body a material host.
They are charged in the service of a former chief from heaven Lucifer. He is the one who rebelled and was cast onto the earth. He influenced a third of angels who fell with him and today they carry on his rebellious nature, influencing human nature on earth. Lucifer is the Prince of this world for a short time and is now called Satan or the Devil. Together with the fallen angels now demons they bring more human souls to rebellion. They will all be thrown into the lake of fire soon with all the faithless human souls that never found God.
The path is narrow to God but if we knock at the door he listens.
It must be said that Jesus was the only one who could come into our material world.
His birth and death go far beyond any logical explanations. It must also be noted hell was not made for mankind.

The dead can also be raised from the graves:

Matthew 27:52-53
“And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.”

Spiritual power can take many different forms, from simple influence of human decisions to severe forms of demonic possession.
The Bible speaks even about the existence of The gifts of The Holy Spirit called the gift of discernment and also the removing of bad spirits from mankind, spirits who are considered unclean.

But for our subject, more important is the attitude that the creator asks from us regarding the spirit of those who have died. That try to carry on their existence in an immaterial world, respectively in the spiritual world. God said:

Leviticus 19:31
“Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.”

Leviticus 20:27
“But if A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.”

Leviticus 21:1
“And the LORD said unto Moses, speaks unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, there shall none be defiled for the dead among his people.”

God has a motivation which linked with his character and wants his people to be like him:

Leviticus 20:26
“And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that you should be mine.”

What is the resurrection?

The Bible said:

1 Thessalonians 4:14
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”

The Bible also said:

1 John 5:11-13
“That God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Remember God has given us a chance for eternal life. Even Jesus emphasised this:

John 5:24
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

1 Corinthians 15:42-49
“But It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.”

1 Corinthians 15:21
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the first-fruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.”

1 Corinthians 15:54
“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

The Bible mentions an important episode linked to our resurrection:

Revelation 20:4-6
“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

The first resurrection is just for those souls redeemed by Jesus’s sacrifice. In the same time souls born again through The Holy Spirit. When we are born again the soul receives life through the life of the Spirit of God. Once the spirit of man gets life and The Holy Spirit starts the process of sanctification it would not make any logic if the soul dies again before resurrection.
At the same time, it is speaking about the second death. If the soul would have died after death, what sense is this to God?
Let’s not forget from the creators perspective the soul is already dead during this life.

Hebrews 9:27
“It is given to people to die once and after that, the judgement will comes.”

God ordained a day of judgement. This will begin from his church true Christians and will continue to all people from high positions too low.

Matthew 8:12
“They tasted Him and saw Him what good He is!’ but have not watched and were found amongst ‘goats’.
‘But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

All those who will not find their name in the book of life will be drowned, thrown into lake of fire together with all those who were deceived by the devil:

Revelation 20:12
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”

Revelation 20:15
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Revelation 20:14
“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”

Revelation 20:10
“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
